Base salary from each district's new-hire placement, plus its advanced-degree supplement and any referendum supplement already built into the schedule. Not included: stipends, extra duties, Title I or hard-to-staff bonuses. Districts verify experience before placing you, so confirm with HR before you decide.
How this works
When you move to a new district, you don't keep your old salary. The new district places you on its own schedule based on how many years of experience it accepts. That makes the same teacher worth very different amounts across county lines.
- Broward, Lake, St. Lucie and Duval pay new hires the same with 0 or 10 years of experience, so experienced teachers usually take a pay cut moving there.
- Experience limits: the new-hire schedules stop at 18 years in Collier, 20 years in Broward, 25 years in Palm Beach, 25 years in Pasco, 25 years in Hillsborough and 28 years in St. Lucie. Experience beyond that doesn't add pay.
- Orange publishes minimum salaries by experience rather than exact steps, so we show the minimum ("at least").
- We don't have advanced-degree pay for Escambia yet, so for a master's or higher those figures may be low.

Common questions
How do Florida school districts set pay for a teacher with experience?
A teacher new to a district is placed on its new-hire schedule by verified years of experience. Every district does this differently: some add pay for each year, some use wide bands, and Broward, Lake, St. Lucie and Duval pay the same for a new hire with 0 or 10 years. Most also limit how many years count (the schedules we have stop at 18 in Collier, 20 in Broward, 25 in Palm Beach, 25 in Pasco, 25 in Hillsborough and 28 in St. Lucie).
Which Florida district pays an experienced new hire the most?
For a teacher with 10 years of experience and a bachelor's degree, Collier places new hires highest at $65,520, followed by Palm Beach ($64,900). Duval is lowest of the districts we cover at $48,700.
How much more does a master's degree add?
Districts add a fixed yearly supplement for an advanced degree. For a master's it ranges from $1,000 in Hillsborough to $5,000 in Sarasota. Many districts only pay it when the degree is in the teacher's certification area.
